Cherokee was the smallest male puppy born to Anu on my bed, weighing just 200 grams he struggled to breathe and it was fifteen minutes of swinging and rubbing before he was breathing well enough to begin feeding. Once he started drinking Cherokee (then called Wing due to the mark on his nape) began a determined effort to survive. One of eleven pups he never required additional feeding as many of his littermates did; every day he doggedly put on 10 grams.

Cherokee remained the smallest pup in the litter and was fondly called the runt. Although small in size he is the most intelligent pup I have ever seen; at only six weeks he was using reasoning behaviour to attain his goals - usually food. Cherokee was a difficult pup to home as he was far too intelligent for a back yard pet and he stayed here until seven months old when the perfect home presented itself. Mrs Lyn Lock an obedience enthusiast asked about Aussies and decided to take on the gangly black tri pup with the bright tan eyebrows.

Renamed Cherokee, he joined Blossom the Golden Retreiver as a member of the Lock family. Cherokee grew into a very nice animal and began a show career which had never been expected for this little guy. Cherokee gained his title in Oct 1998 and was awarded Junior in Group at a Championship show along the way.

Still incredibly intelligent he is a handful and quick to react to stimuli; traits which Lyn is harnessing by using Clicker Training methods and teaching tricks to keep his active mind focussed. Cherokee was desexed mid 1999.
