Topaz is the image of her mother Ebbtide Main Squeeze, having her mothers effortless movement and style. Her exceptional front and head come from her sire SequelsChangingoftheGuard Imp USA (dec). With the passing of her father this little girl is likely to become a cornerstone in the Australian Shepherd breed in Australia.

Topaz at 6 weeks

From the outset Topaz was a standout girl. A lovely chunky pup she had perfect markings and a sweet nature. Extremely lightly shown she brightens in the show ring and her movement and correct confirmation catches the judges eye. Topaz finished her title (100 points) in December 1998 with an amazing 12 challenges.

Shown as an Intermediate at the 1997 Eukanuba Spring Fair and Spring Classic Topaz was awarded Intermediate of Breed both days. She returned in 1998 to the Nutrience Spring Fair and Spring Classic and was not only awarded Intermediate of Breed but BEST OF BREED under two American Judges.

In 1998 at the inaugural Australian Shepherd Association of NSW Specialty show she was awarded Intermediate Bitch beaten for Intermediate of Breed by her litter brother Aust Ch Silvanwood Saxony Onyx. The highlight for Topaz this year was the 1998 Melbourne Royal where she won her class of four and then lined up in the Bitch Challenge between a younger sister and her group winning mother. Moving like a dream she outworked her mother and was awarded the Bitch Challenge.

After the energetic run around for Bitch Challenge she returned to the ring for Best of Breed and was awarded Runner Up Best of Breed to a relative, Leesway Spice of Life (owned by Sue Fedoryschyn and bred by L Lees). Our thanks to Mrs Peggy Gutierrez-Otero (Mexico) for recognising Topaz with this outstanding award.

Topaz has continued her excellent form in 1998 taking Intermediate in Group at Albury Show on Nov 1. She then really pulled the stops out and was awarded Runner Up In Group and Open in Group at South Eastern Kennel Club in metropolitan Melbourne. Thank you to Mr J Comerford for this wonderful win and his very kind comments about Topaz.

Topaz outdid herself in the specialty area in 1999 and 2000 taking out Reserve Bitch Challenge and Runner Up Best in Show under US breed specialist Mrs Pamela Levin at the 1999 Victorian Specialty and Bitch Challenge and again Runner Up Best in Show under fellow American Mrs Janet Robinson at the NSW Specialty in 2000.

Mrs Levin has this to say about Topaz in her critique:
"My first impression is of a bitch with lovely breed type. She has the correct outline and is beautifully in balance with herself. She is obviously feminine without being slight of bone. She has fabulous expression and possesses a wonderful propert head with all of it's component parts. I was very, very pleased going over her. She has correct length of neck and it blends smoothly into a well angled shoulder with an equal length or upper arm, a moderately protruding prosternum, an oval shaped ribcage, a strong back resulting from a long rib case and a short coupling which eases the transition for forward travel. She is excellent going away, and I sure hope she comes back to me as well - and she does! On the side she is very well off in balance. She carries a good topline and she carries her head and neck correctly because of her good shoulder. She is totally in control of herself - totally coordinated and agile."
